Hi  from a newbie!

Very impressed with the forum.  I also have a Lexus LS400, and a '67 Triumph Vitesse Convertible but this forum is by far the best.

Anyway, I have just acquired a 1997 Elite 3l V6 Manual Estate (ebay).  First off, engine wise it drives absolutely fine. I have previously had a 3.0 Senator, and by comparison, I would say that the engine is performing as it should.

I have an intermittent ABS / TC warning light issue (not speedo though) but I'm not going any further with that until I have cleaned all the sensors.  I thought I would do the infamous 'paper clip' test to see if that would give any clues. I got no flashes from the light at all!  Then I noticed that the engine warning lamp was not coming on at all at ignition on.

So, with the aid of the splendid guide on this forum, I removed the dash.  The engine warning lamp was burnt out. So I replaced it, together with three of the dash illumination bulbs, re-assembled and did the test again (with engine running).  The fault codes were;

59 Intake Manifold Valve 1 Voltage Low
19 Incorrect RPM Signal
16 Knock Signal Circuit 1
135 Telltale (Checklight) Voltage Low

What I don't know is:  are these historic codes, or current faults?  If they are historic, how do you clear them?  Does the range of faults form any pattern?

By the way, now I have replaced the engine warning bulb, it's on all the time but as I said, the engine is starting & driving fine.

Any thoughts from this illustrious body would be appreciated.

One other issue I have, is what appears to be tyre noise or  the diff 'whirring' but it does not vary with acceleration / deceleration or cornering and appears to vary with road surface. (I say appears, but may-be I'm just convincing my-self of that!).  So I think wheel bearings are out, Crown/pinion noise is out, which just leaves: Tyres, Prop shaft centre joint or pinion bearing.

Again, Any thoughts would be appreciated.

stored faults should clear themselves after 20-30 starts.once the fault is remedied.

Well, the code 19 means the crank sensor is on its' way out so I would change that befor eit lets you down.

Inlet manifold valve is the solenoid valve on the back of the plenum chamber, passenger side. First check is that the connector hasn't been forgotten and left off when it has been disturbed.

Knock sensors normally suffer when the wiring is damaged. A favourite is the sensor on the driver's side bank where the wire runs behind the auxiliary belt tensioner pulley. Frequently the wire gets trapped behind the pulley mounting when a cam belt change has been done. There's another similar wire and sensor on the other bank, although bank 1 sounds like the driver's side.

It should pull a bit better when those have been sorted out.

Q. Do vauxhall technicians have very small hands?  'cos I have great difficulty getting to anything!
Prefer the engine management on my '67 Triumph. It's got a brown wire & and red wire, and that's it!  Disconnect either and it don't work.
