Tie rod ends
« on: 06 May 2008, 08:36:58 »

Which one is correct part:
- Opel says that I need "the newer model", which is "stonger"?
- one speed shop says "they're all the same"
- one says "up to -98 all the same, newer not available"
So, what are the differences in the tie rod ends different models?
Have once changed one (lasted only 25000 km) and it was M14 threaded, fitted without any problems. Do the older ones have M12x1,5 threaded ends or what is the difference?

Up to 1999 they are all the same. They change on MY2000.

stick to the chassis range and you won't have a problem

Thanks andyc, now I know I have the newer ones, but still I need to know the differences: not willing to pay 130 euros for the parts from Opel, and as I wrote, the speedshops are giving "ksjlflaöj" for answer

So, if anyone has a slightest idea of the differences, please tell. In one store they said that I have M12 threaded parts, but that's for sure that I have M14

I just had to buy the newer ones but they were available as pattern parts (but they were rubbish quality).

The rubber boots perished and I got through 3 sets in a year!!!

Sorry I meant to say I bought complete assemblies - both ends with balljoints and adjusters.

In getting through 3 sets there were some variations in machining and shape (different manufacturers). But all fitted.

The last set however had different thread directions for left and right sides so one side of the car adjusts backwards?! That does mean if I just buy the ends one side will not work.

Not much of this is any help.

I think what I'm saying is there should be a few non genunine part manufacturers for the facelift parts (if I've been supplied facelift parts) and I think they'll all do the job to a certain extent.

I think I'd be tempted to buy genuine next time though - it's not just the fitting it's the cost of getting the tracking done each time too.
