3.0 V6 Running on 5 pots.
« on: 08 May 2008, 21:08:06 »

My 3.0 Elite has suddenly shut down on one pot. :( :( :(

Pulled out 1 plug lead at a time from the drivers side bank and a change was heard with all 3.

This must mean it's on the other side where you cannot get to very easily. Plugs and leads are under the wiring carrier etc.

Will check that side out tomorrow.

just want to know that if it does not seem to be a plug or a lead could it be the dis-pack or would this effect all 6 pots?

Won't use the car while it's running like this as I believe it can damage the CATS

Any advice would be great.

Cheers Guys and Gals -- Regards BIG Al :y :y :y :

If all the leads and plugs are fine, then yes it can be the dis-pack knocking out 1 pot ;)

Yes it can damage the cats...

As for the miss... Don't rule out a plug going down just because they might be new. I've had it happen to me!!

You might be lucky and find that a lead has come loose.  :-? :-?

IMHO a DIS-pack problem would affect at least 2 pots, 1 on each bank, due to the "wasted spark" technique used....  so my guess is you have a plug/lead problem.. unless its the dreaded oil in the plugwell problem (cam cover gaskets)

The more you run it, the more unburned petrol you put into the Cat ... so the more damage you do to the Cat .. and they are VERY expensive items.

I'm assuming you have no EML light on as you don't mention it .... this tends to confirm a HT type problem as this is NOT monitored by the ECU.

The Cable tray does come apart .. it is just very "fiddly" - use a very small flat bladed screwdriver to prise the clips.. they break easily !! Once the tray is removed the cables can be pulled out of the way and tied back .. I use the bonnet support strut !! You then have much more room to move..  :)

No EML light. Done the cam covers recently , so am hoping it's a lead / plug prob. Plugs are about 18 months old now. :-[ :-[

Your suggestion that it would be 2 pots effected if it were a dis - pack prob-  is a relief for the time being.   Thanks Entwood  :y :y
