splutter/sqeaks from cold
« on: 14 May 2008, 12:11:12 »

Got rough running and sqeaks when starting from cold :-?seems to ease off/return to normal as car gets up to temp, and is then fine. car goes like slippery snot in fact (except last night on way home it seemed to cut out or stutter as i hit a bump on motorway s road just for a milly second)
rough running;always starts but recently it seems to spin more freely just before cathing/firing up. then revs rise higher and hang longer than normal before settling on about 1000rpm as normal(?)when cold, this is accompanied by a fut fut fut as if a problem on one cylinder and excessive vibration as if miss firing.
squeak;sounds like a screeching fan belt but intermitant more metalic and quieter, mostly in cold weather, sometimes not at all in warm weather but always squeaks when in reverse anything up to 2 mins after starting.Squeek appeared just after new alternator i think.
allow car to warm in neutral for 2 -3 mins before reversing out of drive and no squeek unless its really cold/frosty, rough running goes gradually in same time period but fut fut will take about 5 mins to stop.
then car is smooth quiet and drives well.
recent history;cam belt in feb and tensioner.think i should have done water pump as well :-/,aux belt and tensioner, followed by oil cooler cover(leak) >:(, breathers, new cam covers,s plug leads and plugs.(oil in plug holes)
suspect;dis pack?water leak and oil leak affected it? plug leads damaged due to oil then straining dis/water on dis pack? how to test?
LOose manifold or broken studs(as seen on here, why they break)?
had car on ramp no blowing but car was well warm. did paper clip test couple of weeks ago when all this started no codes,
any help much appreciated, Chris. :y

Now for tow bar, bike trailer, and lpg conversion. Any advice on any of these? Heard tow bar needs a relay for dash electrics? And whats best conversion kit for the money? Multi point system? I reckon tank in the wheel well? Must confess in my excitement with new car i have not checked faq. Ups.!

Sorry, missed the original post.

Have a little search in the electrical section as towbar wiring has been covered before.

As for LPG, multipoint every time.

LPG ... Sequential system a must ... tank in the spare wheel very debateable ... the miggy uses a fair amount of fuel, and the 3.2 even more !!  On gas I'm getting about 4 miles /ltr, against about 5/ltr on petrol. If you stick a small tank in you will be forever filling up, or running out IMHO. I've gone for an 80 ltr (68 ltr gas) tank in the boot, you lose about 1/3 rd boot space.

Regarding systems .. OMVL is available for about £1300, or you could DIY for about £850 I believe. I opted for the expensive version .. BRC .. cost £1850+VAT (£2173) .. I have my reasons for this choice.

There are photo's of my install here :

and a discussion of it elsewhere ..

Tow bar electrics is also discussed at length somewhere .. can't find it right now.. but I have it printed off !!

Yes sorry, got carried away, will check before asking next time. Just out of interest what did you think on original post?  Thanks for posts guys. Much appreciated. Your help on here has saved me loads of time and agro but most importantly kept me out of the stealers. They just can not be trusted.
