Hissing sound inside
« on: 26 May 2008, 10:22:04 »

I have a hissing sound coming from the passenger footwell area (and its not a snake!)

It is very noticable at idle, but the noise goes away when more than 1/4 throttle is used, but comes back when coasting/idle/light throttle etc.  Its definitely linked to the engine.

Not sure if the two are combined, but its struggling to idle on petrol, sounds like its hunting.   Idles better on gas, but can run quite high  idle at times, and needs a blip of the throttle to bring it back down.

I had most of the pipes dislodged off the back of the air control knob (thanks to a ham fisted stereo replacement) and it was hissing like a good 'un.  To check if this is the problem, try turning the air direction knob to a different setting and see if it stops, just to prove its one of those.  In my case, the hissing was from behind the centre console.

Can't remember off hand which hose is which (its on a post I started a while back), but from memory there's brown, green, blue and yellow ones, about 8mm in diameter and rubber.

I have a similar problem. When someone took the car kit out (before I bought the car) I reckon they have pulled the hose off the back of the control knob that opens the face vents. I took the heater panel off and couldn't find it so I took off the glovebox, thinking I might be able to find the other end, but couldn't either. I know have to live with no face ventilation.

Thanks
Mike

All sorted now - thanks.

I'd managed to connect the vac pipes in the engine bay up incorrectly..... ::)
