HELP - I can't get in!
« on: 01 June 2008, 11:00:22 »

Urgent help requried Omega boffins - I've gone out to the car ('97 R plate 2.5 diesel estate) and the central locking has ceased to function. Not only that but the key won't turn in the drivers door and the boot lock doesn't work.
I'm guessing that this is not a common problem, but can anyone offer some help as I'm in desperate need of using the car to get some work done this afternoon.
All the solutions I've come up with so far involve a brick and any given window. Anything less violent and costly would be appreciated!

Cheers,

Tim.

with some force you should be able to unlock the driver's door, you'll feel as if you're going to snap the key, but you should manage to open it

Agree with Danny there -- happened to me when battery drained. I really thought the key was going to snap, was about to chicken out, and .. hey presto ... it opened.

Gave myself a heart attack when I connected up a charged battery though ---- power sounder went off in my ear !!!!!!

Always keep the drivers door lock well oiled :y

Try some Plus Gas on the key hole, should loosen it up.

It also sometimes helps if you put a little pressure against the door with your leg!

After reading various threads and even starting one myself suffering a flat battery it sounds like Auto Addicts advice is a must.

I am joing to start freeing my locks off tomorrow and when they are free I will try and make a point of using the key to lock/unlock the car on a weekly basis.

Despite believing that you can get into a deadlocked car via the driver's door there was no way mine was going to unlock with the key when the battery was as dead as a Dodo. I put my battery charger across the boot light terminals so I could use the fob, however as you can't get in the boot either, how about removing the numberplate light & putting your battery charger/spare battery across the light termainals OR crawl under the car at the front and power the car up via the starter motor terminals.

Keep it well lubricated and it will work quite easily.

Had no trouble last week when I came back from my holidays and the battery was as flat as a pancake.

It's a good idea to open it with the key from time to time.

I have my doubts!  :-/ I've dead locked the Astra & then disconnected the battery & managed to get in via the key. I can normally get in the car with the key when I've had to but you're using the electrics to open when you've a battery on.
