LPG running lumpy and engine management light
« on: 01 June 2008, 23:14:42 »

hello all, i need some advice on my 3.0 elite.
I have been having some issues with my omega, when it starts the idle is slightly lumpy, and when u switch to LPG the lumpyness is more pronounced, and sometimes when its warm the engine management light goes on and off. But as soon as you accellerate it runs really smooth.
Has anyone got any ideas on what it could be?
I am not that technically minded i am afraid, can anyone give me some advice, or reccomend a garage i can take my car to that deals with LPG in the west london area, i am prepared to go up to 80 miles to get it sorted?
Do any of you do servicing of omegas and will try and sort out my LPG?
as i am driving to france in august and i would really like it sorted.

I reckon it's an issue with the spark... LPG needs the ignition system to be in top condition.

Just a guess as I've just nipped in to check messages before bed!! 5am start fro work tomorrow  :( :( :(

Lazydocker is right, i would start with ignition, LPG will highlight any issues like that.

Whereabouts in London are you?

Seeing what codes are stored would be the first step in the right direction...

mine suffered these symptoms, but it had new plugs the day it went in for conversion, but my lumpy idle was gas only, ran fantastic on petrol

the EML would come on at low revs, and at low throttle at higher speeds, and it was because it was running too lean, no fault codes were stored at all, mine was never cured 100% but was vastly improved when the mixture was enrichened, my main problem is that my injectors had been fitted at the front of the plenum "to look tidy" which i was never too happy about in the first place, i would imagine yours are at the sides of the plenum for a more direct feed?

mine's having the manifold repaired and the injectors re-situated

Paper clip test to get the codes and got to agree with Lazydocker - most likely plugs and leads need changing.

If I'm right, the only errors which may show up should be Lambda related I think. Caused by over fuelling in the cat due to the misfire.

I'd be fairly happy to suggest changing plugs and leads, as per the other suggestions, as this will probably cure the problem.  :y :y

You can get plugs specifically for lpg cars but I've personally never used them and they are awfully expensive.  I wouldn't bother though if you've recently changed dispack, leads and plugs then I doubt your problem lies there.

Does this car have an idle control valve?  If it does then give it a clean and lubricate it.  Also clean the throttle body and surrounding breathers and that should fix the lumpy idle.

If you notice an improvement only on petrol then it's mabye time for a re-tune of the lpg and mabye even a service on the vapouriser.  Clean the throttle body and icv first though.

We still need you to do the paperclip test so we can tell why your engine managment light is on.  Follow this guide and post the results before you go any further...
