Done a lot of work on the V6 recently. Cam covers and gaskets, oil cooler replaced, breathers cleaned oil/water change etc. I now want to cure a long standing overheating problem. When I changed the oil cooler (it hadn't failed but was seeping water around the cover so I decided to do it) there was evidence that the cooler had been changed before I had the car (110k on clock). I am convinced that the rad is partially blocked. Temperature is ok during the winter but runs too hot in the summer on warm days (always around a 100 when in traffic or even when doing 30 mph around country roads). When towing it has occaisionallly gone into the red and, like someone else mentioned, I have to turn the climate control onto 'HI' to bring the temperature down. Main fan is cutting in at 100 degrees but only brings the temp down a few degrees when ambient is warm. When towing the main fan is on all the time just to keep temp at 100.

Do you agree blocked rad is most likely cause? I would rather fit a new rad than remove rad, flush, replace and find it's still the same. Can someone recommend a rad supplier they have used and are pleased with the item they purchased?

Save your money buying a new radiator..take the old one out and give it a flush from both ends with a strong mixture of gunk and water.if it is leaking that is worth the expense of a change but sure a good flush through would resolve the issues.Whilst it is out might also be worth fitting 2 new thermo switches for the fans as they might be now starting to melt internally with all that heat.Not a difficult job to do and as said cheaper than a rad replace.

I have used Fernox to flush my radiator. Remove it from the car, bung the holes, fill and leave over night then give it a good reverse flush with a garden hose.
