Paint Colour.
« on: 18 June 2008, 23:55:37 »

  Hi,
Would a Mini-facelift 2000 V reg. 3.0L Elite in Silver be the same Star Silver as my 96 3.0L Elite or did they make many Silver's in those years.

I'm after a good driver's front door but the bloke who's selling it has scrapped the car already, so no paint code, picture below.

Even if both are Star silver you might still have trouble matching as both could be a different variant of the colour.

Two sprayers can use the same metallic paint and actually get different variants of colour , depending how they apply the paint.

Some old Fords used to have as many as 18 different variants of shade, a paint sprayers nightmare!

Amazingly the yellow paint used on JCB's has the least variant in shade of all manufacturers, their quality control is that high!

yep and if i remeber correctly there was a change by year as well.  My guess is that 96 is slightly darker.

Why not get the door anyway.  If it does not match then strip it down and take it to a pain shop for re-painting.  I'd get them to do the door skin only because the different colour on the inside of the door etc will not really be noticable.  should be £50-£75 for the painting I guess

To do it properly its best to fit the door then take it in for painting where the sprayer will blend in by painting the surrounding panels to match.

Thanks everyone for your comments :y, i think i may as well have my own door painted then as there's no damage just rust bubbling along the top of the door under the rubber trim ::), all the other 3 doors are perfect :).

What causes the rust to start in this particular place on Omega's :question.

        Cheers,
                  Pete :y.

There are many silvers used by Vauxhall, and a fair few Star Silvers.  IIRC, there were 3 different Star Silvers used on Omegas, so check paint code. Z147 seems to be most common one.

Roman Bronze was the one I was thinking of and those other early Ford beauties Silver Fox and Blue Mink that peeled off after a couple of years, they were the first generation metalics and what we have today evolved from those early colours.
