I applied a thin strip of black gasket sealant along that ledge, and so far, so good, no leaks....

Well that is the headgasket to block mating surface.

Did you do the job yourself?

Was it skimmed and new bolts used?

I didn't do it myself, although i will next time.
New bolts were used apparently, and the head was skimmed, the HG replacement was about this time last year and it had been fine up until last week when it started leaking water...

Right.... say i plan to change the HG..., when i'm off work next.. i have a couple of weeks off jul/aug.
What do i need to do this, i presume by the small amount of water issuing that i shouldn't need the head skimming (correct me if i'm wrong)
A parts list and any specialist tools i'm not likely to have lying around would be really appreciated.
Thanks guys...
Oh and if anyone fancies popping over to supervise, that would be great too....
