brown sludge in coolant
« on: 18 August 2008, 08:35:54 »

hi all

I seem to have a problem with the coolant in my 3l elite 1999

when i changed coolant. I changed it from the long life pink stuff to normal.

a a few days later the tank was full of what i can only discribe a a brown sludge mud.

I assumed i had dent flushed it to good and they did not mix well.

so drained it and flushed with hose for ages till everything run clear.

even stuck hose nosel down all the coolant pipes
i could removed coolant tank and cleaned all that out too.

then refilled with the long life pink stuff this time

week later tank full of brow sludge stuff again.

Im  not losing a drop of oil

any one have a idear what this brown crap is?

Yep, oil cooler has failed, wouldnt recommend using your car till its sorted as its not good for it and it will start (if its not already) seriously overheating soon...

And if you use the car when its overheating you will blow the head gaskets too...

A small amount of oil from cooler goes a long way in coolant...    ...and can do a lot of damage if left unchecked.

Also, not possible to check oil cooler condition without removal.
