Too good to be true
« on: 23 August 2008, 15:25:10 »

Having just changed cam belt yesterday on the V6 saloon all appeared ok - smoother, more responsive.

Today, stated ok, went out and on the way home engine died going into a quick roundabout - bl**dy heavy steering with no power assistance, same for the brakes.  Wouldn't restart straight away - 5mins later fired and ran ok.  Drove home OK.  Car has stalled a couple of times prior to cam belt change usually when parking at slow speeds.

Checked codes at home - showed the dreaded code 19 - crank sensor - fits the symptoms.  Can't get one till Tuesday but will fit one then.

Anyway wiped the code and checked for gearbox codes etc - all clear.  Rechecked engine (running) & got  . . . .

Code 57 - Idle Speed Control Valve (ISCV) Interruption  and
Code 165 - ????

Any thoughts? - or is this a spurious code as a result of the original 19?

I know the feeling!!! Had no codes at all before the LPG conversion and now getting the dreaded code 19... Cuts out occasionally too!!

Luckily enough I've managed to get one through andyc, which I'm picking up on Monday on my way through to go to North Yorkshire. I just hope it doesn't give up the ghost completely before I get up there!! I'll be taking it and the required tools, just in case, so if needs be I can change it in a service station I suppose ::) ::)

Just out of interest... Is there any way of wiping the codes after "paperclipping" it other than the 25 or so starts?

Replace crank sensor first as this well may cancel out the other codes.

Didn't paperclip mine used cheapo Tech2.  Able to clear code 19 then on rechecking came up with 57 & 165 :-/

The symptoms match the 19.

If you are in a hurry, I have the plastic type here, but will need it replaced (being a v6 owner, I always like to have one to hand ;D)
