Autobox question
« on: 02 September 2008, 13:26:37 »

Just found this about a brake band on the gearbox

"when the sump is removed there is a dome held on with three bolts this is removed and there is a screw with a lock nut the nut is released then the screw is tightened to a set torque and backed off five turns and locked off at that, this sets the brake band. replace dome, replace screen(filter), refill sump, refit sump (carefully) run up to op tempreture and then remove the level plug to drain the excess oil out (the oil must be at or above set temp) "

Anybody heard this before :question

I'm not trying to achieve anything - this is just some thing i came across whilst surfing the big wide web, just wondered if anyone else knows what it means, according to the place i found it this should be adjusted with each fluid change :-/.

Johnny boy - Basic rule ! -- Don't mess around inside AUTO boxes -

Specialist stuff - I have heard about brake band adjustments years ago -  but can't remember what it's all about.

Iirc  I had an old ford Granada that the Auto box specialist said need the brake bands adjusted -- it was never the same after that was done.

My advice -- LEAVE WELL ALONE ! :o :o :o
