No vacuum to HBV, no heat ... RESOLVED, THANKS
« on: 04 September 2008, 18:32:40 »

Hei!

Strange stuff. After changing the HBV (in summer) I have no heat inside. I started noticing just now, cause weather is getting colder. I thought I broke the HBV vacuum pipe, when changing. So today I pushed it further through the firewall and patched it directly to the tube inside using some rubber pipe. Thought, hooray. Nada! Ok started to investigate and this is what I found:

HBV vacuum disconnected from inside the car: obviously, no heat.
I put my finger on the pipe that comes from heater control side. Slight vacuum when heater is set to LO. When I set temp higher, no vacuum.

Ok so I set the temp to HI and suck on HBV pipe. Heat comes rushing in. I set the temp to LO and suck. Valve open, no heat inside. So how is it supposed to work? My logic says the pipe should have vacuum when temp set to HI? Do I have a leak somewhere that upsets the system to doing strange things? Where to start looking?

Thanks in advance

Did you connect the two output pipes from the bypass valve the right way round.....get them wrong and you get what you are seeing!

Easy test - apply the vacc from the secondary air injection to the HBV - if you start getting heat then Mark is right :y
