miggy misbehavin
« on: 08 September 2008, 14:48:40 »

as of the weekend, it appears i've got a weird, occasional lumpy misfire thing going on.....

feels like it suddenly runs on 3 cylinders, or suffers fuel starvation....

still working on what triggers it....    the worst occasions appear to be when it's running a bit waRM , about 97.5 degrees or thereabouts...   and indeed , it tends to be running warmer overall now than it has done before...

it doesn;t do it all the time, not even nearly....   but ANY instance is worrying and indicative of something not quite right....

it may also be doing it if one is diving hard left, say round a tight corner or something , perhaps under braking, but it's difficult to know if that was mere coincidence , since i don't often do that....   :y   or at least not as hard as it was this morning .....

initially i thought it was a water related issue having got thoroughly THOROUGHLY drenched at high speed this weekend...  on the way to Gloucester, where it first started doing it....  it cleared up after 10 minutes or so...  which i figured was how long it might take to dry out,   but it's been doing it this morning on my way into london and back, in bone dry weather.

typically it's impossible to get it to do it on demand...

experimentation so far implies that it doesn't do it if i have the heater running flat out.....

i wondered might that imply a knackered HBV and dripping on to the Dis-pack?

BUT it doesn't appear to be loosing much coolant...   it was a bit low ( 1.5 cm below the line ) on saturday, so i topped it up with 50/50 and it doesn't seem to have lost any more in the 200+ miles i've dones since then...

what else might cause this ??

dodgy tank of fuel maybe??  although i've filled up since saturday maybe there's some crap left behind??
 :-[

i'd appreciate your thoughts chaps....   i'm worried, and have to drive in to London (islington , just off essex road) every day this week.

behind the plenum theres a big socket for the injectors it may be oxidized , unplug it , spray some cleaner then do the plugging a few times ..

Mine did it. And solved in that style :(

i'll find out when i've worked out where the hell i left my fault code reading gizmo (it's a button on a wire that plugs in....   much easier to use than the chance of finding a conductive paperclip anywhere in this house.... )

i would check for code 10 (crank sensor) and if it isnt showing, would suspect dis pack.the easiest way you can test that would be if you knew someone nearby who you could do a swap with,to see if it cures the problem. :-/

as i recall, swapping dis-packs is a PITA.....
 :'(

I'll see about a paperclip test, then I might give TB a ring and get him to tech2 the thing to get as much info as possible without actually spannering my spine into an unusable mess..  i have too much work on to be paralysed for a week....

I'm large, far from skinny, and I have spinal "issues" relating to having broken my neck (amongst other things) in a serious (not at fault) accident  back in 89....

so crawling around under cars, while intellectually enjoyable, and , indeed, I used to do it for fun...  building race/rally motors and such like...   is rather on the list of "things that you just know are REALLY going to hurt , during and after ! "

like a visit to the dentists without the benefit of gas or other anesthetic

I didn't think for a moment you were taking the piss mate.....   just good natured banter and me explaining my reluctance to crawl around under the miggy....

no need to tread lightly around me on this subject at all....  !
 8-)

i'm used to my limitations...   not fond of them, but used to them...

i only ever get huffy about copyright debates and audio technology....
