What gains can be expected by replacing the fule filter, will it be noticeable?

well when i looked at mine, i found the previous monkey had fitted it the wrong way around  >:(

I got better mpg, and smoother/easier reving over 5k rpm

depends if its restricting the flow or not. Only way to find out is to change it.
The idea is to change it before it gets blocked. Same as any filter. Follow the service schedule and you should not have any problems. Imho.

Like most routine maintenance, if it has got to the point where it is noticeable, it was way overdue!  :o
