Have I Broken The Gearbox??
« on: 18 September 2008, 13:13:39 »

AR35 gearbox...decided to take off the gearbox selector before sending the box out...wasnt concentrating and was tightening the large 16mm nut rather than loosening it...snapped the thread on the bit that sticks out from the box off with the nut on it...

Can that bit be removed easily or is the box now effectively scrap?

Needs the box stripping to get that out.

Can you get to it by taking the main sump out, or, does the bellhousing and pump assembly etc need to come too?

Its bolted to an internal ratchet type setup and cable......think you might just be able to do it with the main sump off (trying to recall how good the access is from memory) but might also need the valve body assembly removed to improve/gain access.

It is only a short shaft section.

no you have not.remove the sump, undo the nut on the other end of the shaft, remove the rollpin holding the shaft in. you can then remove the shaft from the box. tip. put a pop rivet in the centre of the rollpin :)before you get the mole grips on it
