Hi. I have just done mine. I too felt quite daunted by the enormity of the task. I had a lot of support and assistance from other OOF members.
have a read of the various guides or items on gearbox removal on here and in haynes book of stuff.
I would recommend having physical help from someone else. The gearbox and torque convertor are very heavy.
The Sonnax part number is 54701-03K for GM /Isuzu 4L30E.
You will also need a paper gasket for the oil pump, a rubber gasket for the end housing (it is about 9 inches in diameter) and possibly a rubber washer (about 1 inch in diameter) for the layshaft to torque converter seal. There is a seal on the bell housing for the torque convertor that is about 2 inch in diameter which is probably worth replacing at the same time. JPat do a gearbox overhaul kit which probably includes these and much more. Have a chat with either them or the other people mentioned to see if you can get what you need without buying stuff you don't need!
If you do decide to go ahead and need any tips PM me your Email address. If you lived nearer I would pop round and give you a hand. It is a lovely easy job and you don't get at all messy!
