do cheaper tyres generally give more road noise?
I have some cheap ones on mine from previous owner, and think these cause a lot of road noise.

It does vary unfortunately....

As a "heads up" tyre harmonics is controlled by making the contact patch inconsistent by varying the size of the tread blocks.

Basically there's no concistancy so a wide Hz window.... When you look at the tread of a less expensive tyre check how big the blocks are and how varied they are.

My last miggy had cheapos on and road noise was noticable. Changed to Nexen's which are still about mid range price wise (£75 each) and road noise was dramaticaly reduced.

i have found they do and also have had trouble getting to balance properly - i usually put on Federal SS 565's.....no noise and balance out nicely

You learn something every day. Makes sense, I guess. Spread the frequency of the "noise" and it's less likely to hit a resonance with enough energy to be irritating.

Mine do WANLI brand wont ever buy those again sounds like bearings are  groaning (Ooops) maybe they are, no its the tyres

the garage i used to work in fitted alot of wanli tyres and the complaints we got about them was unbeleavable
stick with federals
they are the top end of the budget type range
good all round performance and last just as long as a branded tyre

forget about the noise, the most tragic part is those tires dont "catch" the road on curves and risk your life :-/

Will be in the market for new tyres soon, looking at Federal - SS-535 225/55 R16 95V TW at £58. 40 plus £7 fitting, are these the ones people refer to ?

Just bought an estate with wanlis all round. After warm up, the whining was incredible. reallt thought rear wheel bearings had gone or even worse thought the diff was shot.We put on ramp and found the run out on the tyres awsome. Swapped the wheels back to front and the whine from the front was terrible. yet the wanlis now on the back were quiet. renewed the front tyres (changed to maxi) now no noise
in fact very quiet. So dump the wanlis
