Omega LPG 99 switching off gas when hot
« on: 01 October 2008, 11:54:16 »

Greetings to all omega men and women!
Have a '99 2.5 v6 automatic with a Lovato multi point system  LPG system fitted. This is an extremely well maintained car with 140k and only one fault which is that after  around 30 minutes of running or whenever the engine temp' reaches 90 plus, the LPG switch / gauge (which has 4 green leds and a push button marked G) starts beeping insistently. The only way to stop this noise is to press the G whereby the green leds disappear to be replaced by a single flashing blue led.
I'm assuming now the car is running on some kind of gas/petrol mode and will be happy to run on without further ado. But just a few minutes later this infuriating beeping starts again, this time forcing me to press the G again and switch off gas altogether, ( no lights of any description on the switch this time.)
THe obvious suggestion would be to change the thermostat and renew the antifreeze and hope that the engine runs cooler and removes the need for further expenditure.
On the other hand surely this system only installed in 2007 should be easily capable of operating at 90 degrees plus operating temperatures?
Any idea where in the engine bay the thermostat housing is to be found?

Ideally you need to get the software and cable to talk to the LPG ECU and see what its sensors are telling it. Typically, there will be a temperature sensor on the vapouriser for the LPG system.

Could be a sensor fault, that the vapouriser isn't getting sufficient coolant flow to stay hot while running on gas or another issue that's preventing it running on gas reliably such as a clogged filter.

Do you have a computer cable for the LPG system?  with this you can check for errors.  My LPG system had a failed temp sensor and the ECU flagged it a an error.

Also with this cable you can check the LPG pressure.  I checked mine a few weeks back when i had the same problem and the problem was a faulty Emmegas regulator/evaporator.  The Emmegas regulators are crap and the presure adjustment screws cease.  I ended up buying another one and this fixed the problem forst time.

I also replaced the copper fuel line for some nice plastic hose which was nice  :)  I don't think this had anything to do with my original problem though.

Useful replies; thank you all.
I have spoken to an outfit called Battersea Autogas today and a chap there informs me he has the diagnostic equipment for the Lovato system including the computer cables. They are located in Buckhold road, Battersea and are apparently well established?
Anyone have any info about this company?
Have booked it in for next week, but before taking it in i should add that on the last time i drove it the temp' reached 92c and the engine management  light flickered for a few seconds without any driveability problems.

Really surprised about the lack of response concerning the location of the elusive thermostat housing!

Appologies. It didn't seem relevant to your issue any more. I'd say 92 degrees is not excessive. Normal for it to get that hot in traffic.

The thermostat is right down in the Vee of the engine just behind the cam belt backplate. A bit of a swine to get to. The temperature sensor for the gauge and ecu are at the rear of the vee.

I don't suppose the cooling fans are kicking in and affecting the supply voltage to the LPG system? A popular place to pick up a switched live is the engine bay fuse box where the fan relays are...
