2.2 auto not firing on No 3 pot for a long time now. replaced Dis pack,Cam sensor,plug,swapped injectors over,cleaned Throttle body and generally looked over leads,connections ,pipes etc, still no joy. Is there a way of checking leads to Dis Pack for continuity etc. there is a strong petrol smell, might the cat have gone??

Ayy fault codes stored.

Check the wires to the injector associated with the failing cylinder for short circuits to ground and or breaks

the only codes which come up are P0303 and P1700, when cleared 0303 comes back every time and 1700 now and then. I have had a good look at the cables, seem O.K. I'll try the old dodge of a pin through the insulation and check with M/meter - thanks

1700 is request from transmission to limp

Measure the resistance between the injector wires and 0V (chassis)

Not really an electrical person but they  all read the same at the injector plug end when earthed. One wire runs to 0 (Earthed?) and the other doesn't.

Well they shouldn't....(note there is no earth on a car  )

All injectors should have a  12V feed (Red/Blue) switched by the main fuel pump relay (K44) in the engine bay fuse box

They then have a switched feed from the ECU to each one:

Injector 1 - Brown/Red
Injector 2 - Brown/Blue
Injector 3 - Brown/Green
Injector 4 - Brown/Yellow

The above 4 should have a low resistance to 0v/Chassis (with the ignition off!)

Thanks Mark - probably my old terminology  (earth) What seems clear to me is that all the Red/Blue wires read the same and all the Brown/? wires read the same, so that if the 1,2, and 4 pot's fire and don't throw up a code then why would No3? bearing in mind that I've swapped injectors, the plugs are clean, the compressions are good, new Dis pac etc.  I've always been able to sort out my own Car,M/bike and A/plane engines but am getting cross with this - not really probably me getting too old!

I gave up and was taking the car to the lads who did the gas conversion when the engine got warm it started to run on four - such a relief must have been doing something right. They checked it with their kit and with the normal faults an new one came up P0354 - Primary coil D malfunction. this was cleared but returned on the way home but still ran on 4  cyl's. any ideas please.

Thanks for that  folks(TB - Whats a CPP unit?) It seems strange to me that I changed a Dis pack because of a P0303 code and the new one from VX stealers had the same fault - you live and learn. I can't wait to try it tomorrow when cald to see what happens then!!!
