Steering column question
« on: 13 October 2008, 23:59:12 »

Hi Guys,
Got a bit of movement in my steering column bushes I think. Can feel play through steering column ie. side to side movement and up and down movement. Dont know history as I just bought the car a couple of weeks ago and would swear it feels like the steering wheel nut  loose. (srs light was on when I bought it. and pretensioner work put it out) Possibly some one thought it was the clock spring and had wheel off????. Does the column have bearings or bushes? can you get bearings/bushes  seperate or is it a new column?   Is this common to migs at 100k?

The column has both bushes and bearings and I have never seen one with this issue yet!

Reality is of course that you will have some play in the column (not excessive) on adjustable setups.

The steering wheel is indeed held on with a large nut and this is easy to see by removing the drivers air bag (two screws from behind the wheel, disconnect the battery first for max safety)
