Cam sensor and other issues

Hi, had my 2.2 51 reg scanned on a Tech2 after the engine management lights came on. Four error codes came out but they were cleared by my mechanic and told to come back if the warning light came on again. One week on, the warning light came back on and the Tech2 showed a cam sensor problem.

My mechanic said it wouldn't be likely that all four initial codes were right (can't recall what they all were but not cheap to fix), so just hope it is only the cam senor, which I will get replaced along with the cambelt as I'm not sure when it was last done.

I just hope nothing else comes up after, am I doing the right thing here or shuld I drive it a bit more and re-scan to see if anything else does show up? Cheers.

Cam sensor is about the only known sensor weekness on the 2.2.....and often it results in a number of different characteristics (poor starting when warm etc).

It does also result in some other fault codes like CAN bus errors on the ECU and gearbox.

I think your doing the right thing but, get a Vx one!

Cheers, will make sure they're branded parts.

One other thing, petrol wise the last £10 I put in returned only 40 miles (half of which was on m-ways) - would this be related?

Sounds about right to me, I get about 30 miles from a tenner. The way I drive mind!

Yep, when engine light is on your fuel consumption goes through the roof (Limited Operation Strategy mode).  

I'd give the cam sensor and it's mating face a clean before you splash out on a new one.  I've yet to replace mine and I've had the code spring up a few times in as many years, a quick clean and a drive has always sorted it.
