Cold heaters
« on: 22 October 2008, 10:32:13 »

Hi guys, ive just acquired a 2.5 V6 CD (N reg).

The heaters only blow cold when set to warm, and cuffing freezing when set to cold. I could see my own breath on the drive home today. Not fun! The fan speed side of things still works fine

The cars getting upto temp just fine so i dont think its an airlock. Its had this fault for a while before i got it and its had the system back flushed incase it was a blockage in the heater matrix but it made little to no difference.

Is there anything i can test to narrow down the fault more? Im assuming its not the control itself as theres 2 and both sides of the car blow cold.

if you can get to them try feeling the hoses as they go into the bulkhead & see if they are warm, or perhaps finding the 2 pipes on the matrix inside the car & check for heat, i take it yours has aircon?

Another punt here as I don't know which way round the vacuum works. But if no vacuum = heater is bypassed, then the vacuum pipe might have come off the Heater Bypass Valve (HBV)

Its not got aircon. Ive felt the two pipes to the matrix and theyre definitely getting warm. I was wondering if the pump could have failed and its not circulating as fast as it could though

I had a look at the vacuum pipes and i couldnt see anything amiss, i wasnt sure where teh HBV was, i had a look round the pollen filter but couldnt see much except maybe a black rounded box bolted to the top of it?

This is the maintenance guide for changing it. More than you need to know really - but it will tell you what you do need.
