Water Loss/Heater Problem
« on: 29 October 2008, 07:44:36 »

Over the last couple of days my 2.0 has started losing lots of water and I have noticed that when you pull up at traffic lights or stop in traffic the heater starts to blow cold air out instead of hot.

Do you think the water pump has had it and is not circulating the water??

The only other thing I can think is that when I replaced the HBV I put a pipe on wrong but its been fine for the last month since I did it.

Ive checked for oil in the water and there is none and it does not appear to be coming out of the exhaust.

Any ideas anyone. The only water I can see that is escaping is from the water tank through pressure which again leads me to think that the water pump is not circulating the water and pressure is building??

its possible the incorrect piping you did (i think without reading your post again) is causing water to divert away from the heater matrix instead of going through it so i'd have it off and put it back how it should be

If that was the case I would have thought that it would divert the water all the time and not just when stationary??

Well I just went out and in the cold now the car has been stood for about 1 1/2 hours and checked the water to find the resivoir about 1/2 empty. Ive drained the remainder and refilled with antifreeze due to the weather and it appears fine but still blowing cold from the fans when stationary.

Hoses on hbv appear to be correct but not 100% as not sure which one goes to top and vice versa.

I have noticed though that there appears to be a leak from somewere around the radiator. This is annoying as I only replaced this just over 12 months ago when the head blew.

Anyone got any thoughts.
