right hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.car in question is a 2.5td.the problem is 9 times out of ten the idle will race upto about 1100 rpm, and will take about 20 mins of running to settle down to a more respectable 650or so rpm.then if i turn off engine for a short while and restart her idle will race again even though she's warm.doing my head in now esp as she his an auto.any help or info appreciated. Not heard of this problem before ......

Firstly, I'd try changing the fuel filter, and filling the replacement filter with Diesel Magic or Forte before refitting it.
It might just clear any gremlins from the system, and certainly won't do any harm.
See how you go from there.

Have you checked that your ICV (Idle Control Valve) is all connected, with leads in place and it fully pushed into the plenium? :-? :-?

I think that idle speed is controlled by the fuel temp sensor, (in the injection pump), and 'start of injection' sensor, (within No.4 injector).

Maybe I'm wrong ?!?
Omegatoy and TheBoy will hopefully be along soon to offer guidance!
