Knocking Wipers!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: 02 November 2008, 16:12:49 »

I have just purchased a 2000 2.5 Saloon and the wipers are knocking each time they change direction. I have taken alook at the wiper system and it seems like there is play in the ball joints. Is this a common problem? and what is the best cause of action? is it best to replace the  whole thing as a unit or just the assembly? which is the most easy :-?

Noticed the same on mine when driving home in the rain on Saturday. A very pronounced knock when the drivers wiper gets to the top of it's arc and returns - most annoying. Sounded liek it was coming from the top of the blade but will investigate further down if someone can advise exactly where to look.

Well I have tightened ever bolt I could see and greased up under the ball joints, which has seemed to have done the trick. Will just have to put a replacement unit in, if it starts up again. Thanks for the replies  :y

No they were not too bad. I have visited the local Vaux Dealer today and you can buy replacement con rods from motor to wiper spigot for about Twelve Pounds so I have ordered a couple of them, they should just snap on.

Hi all
just to let you know, I have cured the Knocking Wipers. Fitted a new con rod from GM. Managed to do this without removing the wiper assemble. Prised the old one off, and heated the plastic ends of the new one up in hot water, put on a bit od grease and on it poped. Result.
Cheers

Nice one ill look into that at the dealers for further improvement. I just got a pair of those valio wipers
Vastly improved, no noise, squeak or knocking. And the leopard skin/frosty pattern has gone from the down stroke as well. The old genuiner wipers where not swapping to the direction of travel for some reason, the blade was pointing against the up stroke if you know what i mean. Buggered after 5 months. I now wonder if i took the old one off, put the new one in the bin and put the old one back on again. Cant have been though, the blade was hanging off on the old set. Scratched the screen and all sorts.
