There seems to be a bit of play in my OSF wheel when rocked in the 12 o clock position. It's minimal, really minimal, but I can definately feel it.

Wishbones are nearly new and were fitted properly.

Do you think it's the wheel bearing?

I've seen the excellent guide by MJ so I'm not worried about doing the job - just don't want to do it if it could be something else

not sure if this is going to help, but, on my old 99 omega i got an advisory on the same  front corner, wheel bearing slight play, and tbh i had to try really hard to a, notice it at all and b,decide if it was any worse than the other front wheel which also had play.

I replaced it with a first line effort and frankly it was barely any better but it did not get worse and by the time of the next mot, same  advisory, so back to first line another  bearing and got the old one back to then for testing. They destroyed it in the process but found it "within tolerance"
 
conclude some play is allowed, certainly for the mot and obviously according to first line. Only trouble is, last time i checked mine on my current car, no play what so ever, and spin it and the wheel goes on forever with no disc rub at all. My guess, without seeing it, youll be ok for the mot. Hth.

The wheel bearings on my Westfield are old taper rollers (Cortina hubs) and do have some play when correctly adjusted, unlike the modern sealed for life type.

I used to get an advisory every year at MOT time until I explained to the guy that I strip them and check them at least annually and that is how they are supposed to be. Ever since he has passed them, and admitted that he was covering himself since most modern bearings have no discernible play.

If the play is only minimal, and it is the bearing, I would keep an eye on it and see if it gets worse. As said at 12 o'clock it could be the strut or the top bearing, but again, play that's only just noticeable at the wheel is not a cause for concern IMHO.

If the play goes or is substantially reduced when the footbrake is applied, then its a wheelbearing....
