What Exhaust
« on: 08 December 2008, 11:51:08 »

Hello all. I have noticed that the back box on my car is in need of replacing. I would like to replace it with one that is a bit more throaty ::) but which one do i get? Has anyone got any advice and is it possible to change this myself being a cheapskate ;D.
Cheers

Have checked local exhaust companies and it looks like it will be a vauxhall standard part :P.For a performance one it would have to be made seperately.Do the 3.2 rear boxes fit straight onto a 2.6?.Would really like a twin pipe out the back ;D

Yes 3.2 tail pipe does fit a 2.6; just done mine. I ended up buying a standard exhaust from national tyres as they were the cheapest and I didn't want to fit it myself. It's way noiser than the original, so I'm hoping it'll quiet down a bit once it's done a few 1000 miles.

I'm sure someone else on here said that Vaux are suppying  cheap pattern exhaust now.

have u seen the youtube video
it looks like 2 r fake. only the outer pipes look like they r working

i spoke to 1 company that does stainless steel custom exhaust and i was told due to the fuel tank i can only have the exhaust coming out of the passenger side and not both sides

are you sure its just the box thats gone? Usually they go the other side of the join, meaning a new cat back section incl. the box. As on mine the 2 parts where impossible to seperate with out destruction. Just a thought.

Thankyou to everyone who replied. Sorry it has taken so long but my computer at home is knackered >:( so have to use the one at work. It is the back box that is gone and boy is it hard to locate a twin exhaust one.I think the twin looks better than my single but hard to find unless i go thru my Vauxhall stealer ::). Kwik fit have said the 3.2 is different but they are a bunch of useless to/;ers and will not quote for one. Are they difficult to replace at home? I would expect  the back box to be sealed on the tailpipe but a bit of soft hammering :o may remove it.
Thoughts anyone ;)

It goes straight on. Easy job. I got my twin tailpipe backbox from a MV6 cop car that was being scrapped. I would have been happy with a standard single but I got lucky. You too might find one.

Pattern exhausts tend to be noisier anyway. Beware. The extra noise pisses you off after a while.

Cheers. Hopefully i will get lucky. Certainly do not want to get pissed off with a noisy one so will hang out for a used one in good condition.

Cheers

yep and my 'new type' VX one is noisier than the original.  Old type looks like it was made from wriggly tin, new one look more like the usual smooth cans if you know what I mean
