An odd climate problem

When the car is first started the climate works great - obviously the engine has to warm up before it can give heat - and will hold the temperature really nicely.

However, if the engine is switched off then restarted several times within a short period ... as was done yesterday during the MOT for example, or when refuelling then doing the tyres ..... the CC will sometimes revert to a "no heat" mode, no matter what is done with the controls. A reset makes no difference (and takes about 20 seconds of auto+off to start .. then about 20 seconds to complete).

The engine has to be switched off for about 30-40 minutes after which it will all work quite normally.

The only options I can think of are a faulty ECU .... :( or possibly a sticking HBV ???

Anyone any thoughts or ideas on diagnosis or remedy ???

a live data reading on it may prove useful...  ...how far you from Mr Wood?

Might be worth feeling the heater matrix pipes in the driver's footwell next time it does it - see if there is coolant circulation. :-/

I read in some marketing blurb somewhere that the climate control remains active for a period after shutdown monitoring temperatures, so it knows what to do on start-up. Sounds like perhaps it doesn't recover from this state properly?

Maybe a re-flash of the climate will help - it may well result in its' NVRAM getting cleared out. There may be something spurious that's in there and causing it to act up. Lots of maybe's there though. :-/

you could try to reset the unit.

pressing the off and auto at the same time.

Thats a thought .. as TB had a small amount of trouble getting it load when he did it at the WIM opening some while ago now. I might have to take a drive down to you when I can find some free time that fits your plans .. !!!
