2.2 dti aux belt tensioner
« on: 11 January 2009, 12:56:20 »

Hi all. Need some advice please.

I know there are not a lot of 2.2 dti owners on here, but any advice would be greatful.

Started my engine this morning and the upper bolt holding the tensioner on, sheared.
I changed the crank pulley a month or two ago because it was causing my aux belt to sqeal like mad. The new pulley was a solid piece of metal, not like the one I took of which had a rubber part to it.(anti-vibration?)

Is this solid metal pulley a mod Vaux' did or do I have the wrong pulley? :question

The rubber part must have dampened some of the vibrations? All I can think of is the bolt has sheared because there is no anti-vib and that bolt has taken the brunt of it. :(

Hi, if this is the drive belt tensionor - which stops the belt from getting slack, it has a piston which you  depress  when you put the belt on at the bottom and the wheel which the belt rides on is plastic at the top. My belt did not make a noise but it was not fully tight. Checke and the whole piston chamber had cracked and was no longer keeping the belt tort. Is the top bolt broken off? Can you get any tools on it to undo?

I had changed the crank pulley because it was not lined up properly with the rest.(slightly forward) this was causing the belt to rub on the crank pulley.
I bought a new pulley, tensioner and belt which silenced the sqeal.

Took the tensioner to a Vaux' garage and they inspected it for me and compared it to a GM version. No difference. Ordered two new bolts while I was there too.

Just need to buy some extra tools to remove the bolt. I am hoping I will not have to remove the radiators to get access!! :-/

hi,

You can get access from underneath, it’s a bit cramped but it can be done. The bolts to remove are star ends - so make sure you have the right adaptors on the socket set.  You can get a spanner on the tension bolt to release and drop off the drive belt.

Checked mine as I had to replace it, mine sits very slightly forward also - so the belt looks like it should fall off - but... Had it checked and they said it was normal.

regards
