Fuel comsumption 2.2 petrol auto
« on: 19 January 2009, 13:03:24 »

I have been watching the mpg for the last £30 of fuel. It seems very low compared to my 2.0 sri Vectra in which I get around 26-30 knocking about with a light right foot
I am only getting around 17-18 mpg around town and thts driving quite carefully. Is this normal for 2.2 ltr petrol auto. if not is there anything that can be done to improve mpg. The car has 43k on the clock and is a 52 model cd
Thanks :(

It's a slightly larger engined car, it's an auto and it's heavier than your vectra is. Although I'd say it was still a tad low for round town.

i have been getting similar figures recently although my commute is 2 miles each way and i have had the a/c on. Mind you usually i only get in the low 20's normally which is still disappointing.

I too can get only between 17-20 mpg on urban short distance but have found keeping tyre pressures at around 30psi helps (which is standard anyway) and not clogging it before the engine is warm does genuinely help.

I get 30-32 on motorways under as long as I stay under a ton.

Hi,

I have a 2.2 Petrol Auto Est, I am getting on average 22-25 mpg, But i have noticed that if it's really short distances and the engine is cold, then this is much lower. I travel 7-8 miles to work and back, and if i don't thrash it i can expect about 22-24Mpg. Motorway can be around 32-36Mpg, at around the legal limit.

Hope this helps

Consider the following

In two miles traveling the engine will only just be getting upto temp (if at all), you might get better consumption if you leave it on the drive idling for a few mins first!

It will take longer to get to temp at the moment due to the cold weather

Its an auto

Its a heavy car
