Had a sat nav fitted to my 03 plate 2.6 V6 which does not even recognise the M6 toll road, can you just get a new cd? Assume it cannot be updated to read post codes?

Hi

Yes you can get a new disk 08-09 is the one and can get them from Navtec from about £60-70. Even with the new disk you will still not be able to use post codes i think this is just how the system is set up.

If its a siemens 2011/13/15 you have then yes update disc avalable from Navteq 60 to 70 quid. But dont expect traffic, speed camera/more poi's and post codes to improve over what you have already.
 Unfortunately vauxhall only subscribed to tmc messages (traffic) in the uk from after 2004. So not available on the factory head unit.
 Also dont bother with any dodgy download versions, the optics will wear out from reading higher compression discs.

 But hopefully at least the maps will be an improvement.

As others have said, new map disks are avaiilable from navteq, but you dont get any improvement in functionality

With the latest cd I have - 2007 (and I have updated twice I think since 2002) the assistance with lane selection  and roundabouts is a lot clearer. Seems an improvement - am I dreaming again??

Better off switching it off and using a TOM TOM

Sadly yes, i use tomtom on a mobile phone, and the Mrs Tomtom one on occassion, far more often for ease of use not to mention cameras and
Traffic which is important to me when commuting on the M4.
 However when it comes to actual guidance the car system rules by a country mile. Tomtom can let you down and loose signal in built up areas on cloudy days, and can take a good 5 mins to locate from cold.

 But i suppose between the two they cover most situations and eventualitys. Do feel a twonk on the few occassions i've had both on. Usually in London trying to get out. Cursed place, need all the help i can get.

 Which reminds me, i have an idea to run the tv out from the mobile to the colour screen somehow, then voice activate stuff like tomtom to the cid.although i may be the only one who thinks its a "good" idea...
Need some serious help from some very busy admins who have far more know how than me to sort it out though....

I totally agree with ell the above posts.

I've got Sat Nav in my Mig too and rushed out to buy the latest maps but it's pretty damned basic compared to the tomtom I've got. But, at the end of the day it gets me from A to B without having to stick the tomtom to the windscreen every time hehe.

To be honest, the facelift satnav is good to the point where I would not bother splashing cash on any other system.

But then I dont speed!
