O2 sensor shorting
« on: 04 February 2009, 12:51:50 »

Had another thread with fuel pump not working and fault located to blown 30A fusible link.
Replaced the fuse and all working for a while then the car cut out again and the fuse again blown.
Looking at the circuit diagram in Haynes I noted the O2 sensor is on the same path so checked this and found the sensor was now touching a bolt for the heat shields above the exhaust.
2 wires have severed - white and grey (I think) and 2 still attached - white and black. So I assume the sensor will not work as either the sensor and/or it's heater is disconnected. I did change the centre exhaust sections so I assume it is now higher than before and hence the clash. Any suggestions on lowering the exhaust or otherwise protecting the O2 sensor? I was contemplating removing the nut on the shield and cutting the bolt down - is that too drastic?

I removed the nut and cut the bolt down in size and refitted a smaller nut.
This gives some clearance but not much.
I'll have to replace the O2 sensor now as the wires have broken off at the sensor.
Where's the best place to buy?
Is it ok to run without the sensor for now?

Do they get damaged easy or could I get one from the scrappy?

Runs ok without the sensor - hope I'm not doing it any harm!
Price for a sensor seems very high - is it ok to get one from a scrapper?
