Coolant level warning message
« on: 10 February 2009, 14:23:18 »

HI

Probably a simple answer to this.

Got a coolant level up with check on the display thingy.
Checked the level and it seemed ok, could do with changing, but i guess the sensor goes off level and not concentration or quality of liquid?

so is the message a precursor to something else, like the hbv going or something (or is that only on the v6's).

I dont think there's a leak as the level seems ok, so any help'd be appreciated.

if the level is fine, then the sensor is knackered.

Few jabs at the float with a stick may solve, as it may have gunged up a little.

If that doesnt sort it, then get a new tank of a breaker or vauxhall, about £30.

Your right, its not a clever sensor, just a float measuring water height.

prob float stuck as Jb says,
if you have to change the bottle, youll need to drain the fluid anyway, there is a drain plug bottom right of rad as you look at the engine bay.

Is it every 4 year to change the coolent?

I aim to do mine every 2 years Chris, given its just a tenner for a can of antifreeze.

Funny, mine did exactly the same while driving yesterday. i sh1t it and pulled over only to find the coolant a lovely orange colour and bang on the mark. Im going to check the sensor is plugged in properly first after having work done a couple of weeks ago i might not of plugged it back in properly.  :y

Often fails due to KHMS

when filling the bottle, many people arent accurate and slosh some over the side, which runs down and attacks the sensor from the bottom.
