Professional Mechanics H&S
« on: 13 November 2007, 17:26:09 »

Unfortunately the picture isn't very clear. It was taken just outside the local garage near my office. Apparently they were short of space inside, so this mechanic in blue overalls was changing the oil under a customer's car parked on the street outside. Nothing wrong with that... except that the car was raised on a single hydraulic jack with no axle stands and the guy was completely underneath it... scary. And these are supposed to be professional mechanics.

...that's appalling. All it takes is for you to not lock the handle properly, it doesn't even have to be faulty. Then, if you're daft enough to get under a car without stands, you deserve to become mechanic pate...

Not to mention if it's in the road where it could be clipped by a passing vehicle. Even the vibrations from an artic passing could unsettle it  :o
