the mrs is killing the car...and i have proof now!
« on: 10 February 2009, 23:08:22 »

had to put a litre of oil in the car at the weekend as i have neglected her a little bit since the cambelt and rocker cover work
its still leaking oil and when i went to top it up i found a rather large amount of mayo on the filler cap and filler neck

now the bloke at the garage reckoned he didnt need to clear the breathers out yet after seeing this i now think he was talking out of his arse

oh and the mrs thinks its acceptable to drive a car with 150k on the clock.....a mile into town and back every day. ::)

will it just need a really good service and me taking the key to work with me from now on lol

i dont think the head is on the way and it also dont seem to get up to temp anymore since its been from the garage - any thoughts?

He is talking out of his arse.. if it is still leaking oil get it done sooner rather than later as the plug wells will fill, next thing your leads will be playing up...
If you use Vx oil short journeys shouldn't be to much of a problem.

Give it a good run and you'll find the mayo will go, as it's common on these due to the filler next being higher up so condensation sets in :).

Short journeys are what cause the problem ::).

i havnt had chance to get a look at her due to the weather being son bad and being so busy - it may be a diff place because it seemed to stop for a while

but when i first had a look under it seemed to be coming from high up and it was dripping off the box and the sump. i'm wondering if he bothered at all because he first rang me to say the rocker covers were stuck down and he risked bending them if he tried getting them off - so i really dont think he touched them - especially with all the mayo in the filler and him saying the breathers were clear

i think i finally got it into her head the other day when i brought the car home and said here come and look at this.....

Pull out a spark plug lead drivers side is quiet easy, you should be able to get one on the passenger side. Have a look to see if you can see oil. If so they are leaking. If they are leaking the leads will eventually get damaged by the oil.

If he hasn't done the job you want your money back. If he has he needs to do it again properly

Matt, i am coming up to scarbourgh sat eve, so maybe sometime sunday i will have a look for you mate. mayo on the cap is not the h/g going as already said, i will bring up some vx oil for you and an oil filter. sunday afternoon after the service , clean the cap and filler neck and give it a good run to york and back and we will drain the oil and change filter and look for the leak.

Hi guys, live in Scarborough myself, interested to know what garage you used. As yet i have found one which is would trust or consider to be competant at anything!

Take the car for a good run and see if it clears?

steer clear of scalby mills garage (same site as the total) charged me for an oil change on the bmw and didnt do it

i used courtyard car centre for the cambelt work and rocker cover gaskets. these are the ones that disconnected the MAF becuase they fitted it upside down and couldnt work out why it was running shite!

so yes.... i dont know who to trust either - but my brother cant fault CCC so far

Gary - pickering will be a better run - a few hills and some nice spots for an overtake!

how long you staying for?
