Fault codes 88/89

Hi folks

My 1998 2.5td auto throughs up both these codes via paper clip test  sometimes its 1 some times its the other , i disconnected the battery for an hour and a half  , will this clear the fault code.

Can anyone advise what their  inst mpg is displaying on dash  upon idle mine sits at 0.3/4 when it used to sit at 0.1 is this normal
