Vauxhall Omega V6 2.6 Elite 51 Reg Auto
« on: 04 March 2009, 13:33:46 »

I have just had the MOT done and was told to have 2 parts of the exhaust replaced, due to blowing.  :( But its noiser that it was prior to this being done. I have been told it takes 2/3 weeks for the noise levels to reduce, but i feel that when you have something replaced it should automatically get better.  :-? It has a 2 year guarantee and the manufacture will replace 1 part under the guarantee. The garage stated that even if this is done it may not stop the problem (trial and error).

Also had the rear brake pads replaced, but when slowing down say from 30mph to 10 mph, then stopping, the steering wheel shakes slightly and the brakes judder. It feels like the brakes are sticking. I was told that due to slight corrosion on the rear discs and new pads, that this is the problem. If I have the discs skimmed (£55 to do) this should ease off and wont be a problem. :-/

I am getting fobbed off or is this standard thing.... I am not a mechanic but feel like it should be??? :(

Not sure about the exhaust but the new brake pads probably just needs bedding in. I'm sure they'll return to normal after about 60 miles or so.

having worked wih exhaust most of my working life
it sounds like the company have fitted a chepo exhaust system which will not get any better trust me they sound terible

the best to ask for is bosal exhaust you get a 3 year warranty and the sound is much better straight away

hope that helps

To me mate sounds like someone is trying to fill you full of shit. A new exhaust that will go quiet after a few weeks :-?
I don't know how much you have paid but a Vauxhall exhaust seems to be a good one :y

When i bought mine it had a full new system except from downpipe,
Its not a VX one because the chrome tailpipe sleeve is different......

Now let me tell you...im seriously considering ripping it off!  >:( the damn thing sounds as if its blowing(its not because i got my mate to cover the tailpipe with his hand to see if it was and its sealed!!) its just total and utter pure crap!! ;D
I priced a stainless steel system from a maker up here who have quoted me £200 - £250 + vat for a system less the front pipe(can do that too,but obviously extra)and at that money im seriously thinking about it......

Have to agree, the previous owner of my mig a had a full new pattern exhaust fitted including cat, way too noisy than it should be, will be changing it soon to orginal spec front pipe with 2 cats and getting stainless steel cat back, if your intending to keep the car for more than a few years it worth it as you won't be saving............
