Have I killed my car?
« on: 29 March 2009, 13:19:07 »

Further to my post on white smoke.............

Just been out and checked the dipstick and the oil is perfectly clear, however I then decided to check the coolant in the header tank.

There was a lot of pressure in the cap and the coolant is a kind of caramel colour. It looked a bit like a milkshake. Tried starting the car and there was a definite misfire when I first started it which cleared after revving a couple oif times.

Head gasket or something less serious????  :'( :'( :'( :'(

Mayo. Not loads but more than I would normally see from short journeys. :-/

if coolant is thick and light brown, oil cooler. Dont use it until fixed.

It is definitely light brown but wouldn't say it was thick. Make any difference?

Dip your finger in there... does it feel greasy? Does it smells slightly petrolly (is that a word?)?

Oil cooler then :y And I agree with TB - don't use it until it's fixed and well flushed through :y
