Very basic LPG queries
« on: 02 April 2009, 14:31:25 »

As some might know, when I got GNU she had a single point LPG system attached to half an engine.  Whilst swapping engines I got my grubbies on a sequential system from a scrapped 3.0.

This has now been successfully ( if somewhat messily) transplanted and grafted to the new engine. Naturally, although the engine runs like a dream on petrol, it refuses to run on gas at all. Just keeps switching back to the wet stuff.

I have got hold of the software and interface cable .. and this is where I am lost !!  What is the sequence of events when setting up the system?  Do you just plug everything in, then fire up lappy and start engine -- or do you have to fire up lappy and engine, THEN plug in ..... or what ????

You might have gathered I have no paperwork at all to guide me and am completely at sea here  ::) :-/

Any and ALL advice gladly accepted  :)

First thing is to get the laptop talking to the gas ECU. This should be possible with the ignition turned on. If not, investigate whether the gas ECU is getting a power supply.

Once you are talking to the gas ECU you can see if you're getting signals from the RPM, injectors, Lambda sensors, temperature and pressure sensors, etc.

It would be worth identifying the ECU and scouring the internet for a manual.

Cheers Kevin ... if this doesn't get sorted the car and I are parting company. In that event I might need to remove gas system entirely to sell as petrol only, rather than with a duff LPG system!  Lovely, lovely car, but the QX is cheaper to run ( and one of them has to go !!! )

I agree... I doubt it's anything serious... Probably a dodgy connection ::) ::)

Yep. Have faith. It'll be cheap enough to run with a working SGI system. Mine is costing 11p a mile commuting at the moment - and it's a 3.2. :y
