Can't find a way to lock the pulley so that I can remove the viscous fan. Anyone got a good method? Otherwise its out with the hacksaw and drills to make a "special" tool.
Can't find the rad drain tap -- where is it?
mc9
Rad drain tap is located at the extreme bottom nearside of rad.
It's a red slotted thumb-screw which should only unwind a few turns, and drains only about half the total volume of coolant.
For a complete coolant drain-down, there's also a drain bolt, (17mm socket/ring-spanner, from memory), located on the offside of the cylinder-block just aft of the turbo. This removes completely, so be careful not to lose it.
Your cooling system capacity is 10 litres if totally drained. So you'll need to add 5 litres of Vx antifreeze on refilling.
Viscous fan nut:
Looking at the engine from the front, I put an adjustable wrench on the nut at about the '10 past the hour' position.
Then give the wrench a sharp clout clockwise, (downwards), with a hammer.
I've not failed to slacken one yet with this method!
To tighten, jam a strongish screwdriver or pry-bar across two of the pulley bolts to counter-hold, and just pinch the nut up tight - don't 'murder' it up, there's no need .... !
