MOT Tomorrow......
« on: 23 April 2009, 15:45:42 »

Are the front fog lights part of the MOT? as I've a bulb gone in one and the MOT test is tomorrow.

I'm sure I've seen this question somewhere on here but can't find it!!  :-/

Cheers

That is a good question!

Obviously the rear fog light(s) must be in working order.

But the following official site

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_10016070

just states that with lights:

"Lights - condition, operation, security and correct colour. The headlamps will also be checked to see if the aim is correct"

So as front fog lights are not mandatory I would think they come outside of the test. :y

No doubt others will air their views! :D :D ;)

Ah, just found this excellent site that seems to confirm my original thoughts:

http://www.carsparefinder.co.uk/blog/the-mot-test-lighting/

which with a comprehensive list, includes the following statement:

"The lighting section of the MoT covers all exterior lamps required by the Road Traffic Act; this excludes front fog lamps, reversing lights and work lights as fitted to some commercial vehicles."

I dont if they must work or not but I did notice my MOT tester switching all the lights (inc fogs front and rear) on and off when he got in the car to drive it inside for its test........

Just as a footnote.

Passed the MOT today and all it needed was two new orange bulbs for the rear indicators as the old ones had faded!!

The front fog lights weren't even mentioned as an advisory!! So I guess that they weren't checked!!  :y :y :y

That is just to check that the internal warnings for all the fogs etc. work :y
