a big thanks to everyone, cos as usual you boys know best!!!
mentioned my problem to you and voila problem solved.
Camshaft sensor was the culprit for poor starting (little spanner sign)
managed to get almost a year out of old one (not cheap are they)
but took the plunge and replaced it last week and so far so good.
so thanks again chaps
