Removing the starter motor V6
« on: 30 April 2009, 16:58:20 »

My starter has failed again and it also appears that my rocker cover seals have gone too as the starter is covered in a nice thick layer of oil.

I plan on taking the starter off over the weekend to see if it can be rescued but does anyone have any handy hints about how to go about getting it off as access is a bit tight to say the very least unless you have the worlds smallest hands.  Haynes says to remove the engine mount on that side but is that really needed becasue as far as I can see it won't really give me that much more room.

Could have dealt with the omega breaking down as i barely use it but the day after my motorbike decided it didn't like me and that also needs some attention so at the moment I am without any transport at all.  Just in time for a bank holiday too.

Bugger.

Not a fun job  :(
This is how i go about it.
Front end of your mig on ramps, battery wire off, air intake trumpents off from plenum both engine mount nuts off both on drivers side as engine mount has to come out and bottom nut on passenger side, jack on front of engine sump, spead load with small wood between jack and sump, jack till can remove engine mount drives side.
Move water coolant bottle a side and pump below coolant bottle, now you have good enough access but you will also need to unbolt engine mount bracket from engine to remove starting motor  :-/
Good luck  :y
