Thanks for the advice fellas.  I have a small trolly jack in case that i have used with no problems but i wanted one that i can get the car up higher with as to get my axle stands under and the one i have seen gets up to 800mm so thats plenty high.  Just thought i would check before spending out heaps of cash.....

How high do your stand go up to?

im under the impression, rightly or wrongly, that in order to get car on stands reliably, you may well need 2.25 ton jack as a minimum. Have had the use of 3 smaller 2ton jacks and non had the hight to reach the lowest stand setting, one bent side ways quite badly as i have a rather breaked tarmac drive and the wheels dont role as its pumped up.

I now have a 3 ton quick lift jack which easily lifts to the top/highest stand setting and its well up to the job but is VERY heavy, unnecessarily so. 2.25 or 2.5 ton would be more suitable i would have thought. In my experience anyway. Hth

Having said that Mr Bs pictured small jack is doing bloody well lifting "ALL" that weight.  ::) :-X

Your right mate when i put the small trolly jack under and get the car up i can only just get the stands under and thats on the first setting.  The high lift one that i have seen is only 2 ton but thats what my small one is and that lifts it o.k just not that high.  My axle stands are 3 ton ones.

Having it load tested with ALL that weight reassures me that it'll cope with a wheel change on my caravan!  ::)  ::)  ::)
