which removable towbar?
« on: 02 June 2009, 11:50:00 »

Hi Everyone

I am looking to fit a towbar to my 2002 3.2 mv6 saloon and was wondering if you could recommend a good removable one. ideally one that when the ball is removed  has very little left visible.(are genuine VX ones good?)

I am in the midlnads so any recommendations for fitters would also be a great help

Also if anyone has pictures of there towbar on and removed this would help me alot.

Thanks

I had a Westfalia one and was very happy with that too. It does result in a plate being installed along the boot floor which can be a nuisance.

I packed up some of the difference in plate to boot floor with a piece of carpet, but I have seen a piece of MDF cut to shape which seemed a good idea.  :y

Well you don't want to know the cost of a GM bar

Tow Bar 90566914 £452.72 Trade and the electrics £38.77 trade :'(   Both only avaliable non stock from Opel

But we can do a Witter bar as we are also one of the largest Witter stockist in the UK but they do only list a fixed type

Tow Bar RRP £171.35 Our Price £94.24
Tow Ball RRP £8.63 Our Price £4.75
12N Pre Wired Electrics RRP £17.25Our Price £13.80
Delivery cost £9.20

All prices include VAT @ 15%

But as i say it is only a fixed type ball

Cheers

I know that's supply only but if you compare with some of the other manufacturers of towbar for recent-ish car it's not that bad. I spoke to a local towbar fitter who said that some of them can be as much as £1000 fully fitted.  :-?

I have a towsure,It's strong but ugly. The bit that the hitch socket's into tends to ground on speedbumps & the gate to my drive.

I have a Bosal removeable towbar which I brought off VXL V6 a couple of months ago. Its on a 99/T Elite and when the towbar isn't installed it is still quite visible.

It also has the large plate in the boot. VXL V6 had quite expertly made some MDF panels which went either side so no raised centre of the boot.

He also supplied a wiring diagram. Amazing value for £45  :o

It was really easy to fit as Vauxhall have already got the 12mm (I think?) holes cut in the correct areas, they have just covered them with a thin plate, but even these have a dimple in so you cant miss the hole. :y

Hi looked at the brink/Thule one and got a quote fitted...£483 ..yes but they did say for this price they would come to my house and fit it. :)

Looks a very good quality one but wow..that is alot of cash. did this one require the plate in the boot?
