Elite help
« on: 15 June 2009, 13:05:17 »

So, to add to my 2.5 CDX Auto I have now bought a 3.0 Elite Manual. Maybe against my better judgement but hopefully not.

It returned from Redditch almost faultlessly, just a hiccup at one point in Redditch centre down to a severe lack of fuel methinks. On the way back it returned 39mpg!

Couple of things, exhaust is making a horrible rasping noise. Pretty sure this is the baffles but not sure in which box. Where is the best place to go for a system?

There is also some knocking from the front on severe bumps, wishbones? How much and where from?

Other than that just a few minor issues with radio connections, code and telephone operation (if it has it - I want it to work ::)) Also a lack of Sat-Nav voice, been reading about a speaker in the passenger footwell? Not investigated yet.

Thinks tracking is off slightly and some play in steering which i'm putting down to the idler. Also some rust spots which I'd like to get cleared up if possible.

Any advice appreciated and if your local and would be able to come give it a look over that would be very helpful.

All the electrics work fine though and it has had cambelt and waterpump done - with proof. New clutch 11k ago as well. MOT til end of month which is why I got it so cheap so ideally would like to get it all sorted by then

Thanks in advance

Well, regarding the exhaust, www.eternalcar.com are the best bet IMHO. Complete V6 system (both centre sections and back box) for about £120 delivered.

Not quite as refined as the original system, but decent quality original fit system is no longer supplied by Vauxhall.

Need some chrome trims on the tail pipe IMHO as they are not that attractive and one member did have to cut a little off the end of a centre section to get it to fit. Other than that they are good value IMHO.

Mine was straightforward to fit. be careful of the catalytic converter flange bolts which can sieze and often shear on removal. Give them plenty of plus gas well before and during removal and perhaps a bit of heat.

Knocking from the front is commonly the anti-roll bar drop links but wishbone bushes and the steering idler are also common failures, so while you're under there....

The steering box does feel like there's a lot of play when the engine is stopped. If there is excessive play when running it can be adjusted out although this is not a procedure that Vauxhall list as a maintenance task. Make sure everything else is tip top first.
