Electric water pump 2003 Omega V6 2.6
« on: 16 June 2009, 08:44:25 »

A question. What does the small electric water pump just below the header tank on the drivers side do? Is it just for the heater circulation when the engine is off? And can I remove it and just join up the two pipes without affecting anything.
It's just that I have recently had an LPG conversion and I need to remount the pump due to the vaporiser being located about where the pump should normally be and the pump is currently at a bit of a 'jaunty' angle now and is too close to the airbox edge for comfort.  I have protected the water hose from being chaffed but could do with either relocating the pump or more simply removing it altogether, if possible.

As an aside I am very happy with the LPG conversion and it works without any trouble.  System is BRC sequent and seems very well suited to the car.

Thanks for advice on the pump.

I forget exactly how the pump works, but I have run with mine by-passed for a few weeks with no trouble. (It was a 2.5 V6 at the time) Even so, I did source a replacement and fit it, so I was happier having the setup as standard. Personally I would resite the pump and keep it in the system.
