Multi Rams not working
« on: 07 July 2009, 14:38:39 »

It seems that the multi rams on my car are aslo not working. With car running short hard blip of throttle and no movement on either.

Any way to fix this or is it replacement required?

there is a layout of vacuum pipes in the maint section.

May be worth checking what you have against this  :y

Pretty sure I have the vacuum pipes connected correctly as I followed the diagram last time I took the plenum etc. off. I will check again.

Where is the vacuum solenoid valve and switch located?

Have you got a vacum at the end of the pipes, could be the vac res' gone.

Check all connectors as we have these sort of problems on the Senator/Carlton & Lotus Carlton engines

There is a non return valve in the vaccum tank that fails to get around this you can buy  a non return valve as used on fish tanks and insert it in the pipes not sure which one but it does work . I am sure one of the more knowledgeable members can tell you where it goes  :y

Don't forget the front multi ram moves around 4000 rpm, sometimes if you blip the throttle at that sort of revs the rear will also activate :y

ime its a case of following the vac pipes and examining closely for holes/leaks. Paying special attention to ones under the scuttle area at the back of the engine bay. Also quite common for the right angle elbows to break or crack on the vac tank on the back of the air intakes.
If you get a fading hiss for a second or 2 when the engine is turned off, def a clue.

If you still have trouble they can be activated remotely via tech 2 which should make diagnosis easier.
